yes she can cook!

I’ve decided to ban octopus from my kitchen permanently.

Octopus and potatoes.  Especially in the same dish.  After two consecutive blogs about kitchen gross outs, is it any wonder I prefer eating out? But despite my preference to make reservations for dinner, I was desperate to be domestic today.  I needed to feel like a wife and a mother.  And I needed to feel like I still knew how to do both.  So, I made dinner tonight.  Spinach lasagna.  It was really good.  Despite contrary rumors, I’m an excellent cook.  I think my husband was quite surprised that it wasn’t from the grocery store freezer section.

My lasagna was perfection.

That is precisely why my daughter picked every bit of spinach out from between the layers and left it in a pile on the side of her plate.  But at least she ate it.  In fact, she had two helpings.  She was probably still starving after missing dinner last night.  We tried to convince her to eat the octopus stew by omitting the fact that it was chocked full of tentacles.  That worked only as long as it took her to discover the little sucker things floating in her stew.  She didn’t eat another bite.  So I was pleased that she ate the lasagna, even if she did pick out the spinach.

I have the day off tomorrow, and we’re going to a have a girl’s afternoon.  I’m certain she has things in store for me that I’d rather not do.  And I’m sure she will drive me just a little nuts before dinnertime.  But I’m also sure I’ll cherish the time for years to come.

I don’t get enough time to just be a mom, so I’ll take what I can get.

Until the next time…I’ll be shopping with teenagers!
