no rain on prom night

Today was a great day!  Prom was a tremendous success, and the girls looked beautiful.  Most of the day was spend watching the sky for the possible threat of rain (it never materialized) and running around collecting last minute beauty products for hair, nails, and make-up.  I found myself the unwilling “color wheel” for the make-up choices the girls were contemplating.  My hands and arms were painted in sample colors of sparkly eye shadows and my fingernails each had a different color of polish.

My eye was still twitching slightly, so of course we had to paint my lids with the most outrageous colors I could imagine.  It made it interesting to walk through the mall on a crowded Saturday afternoon, but I honestly didn’t care.

And I didn’t look that bad, as long as I squinted my eyes up until the colors blurred together.  I ended up with a nice selection of new eye shadows too.  I was pitifully off my game when it came to price negotiation today.  There was just too much to do.  But once the girls were safely dropped off at the dance, I was actually able to spend a few quiet hours alone with my husband.  I think we needed that time more than I even realized.  It’s amazing how exhausted you get when arguing with the people you love.  It was a great relief to finally come to a consensus on all the things we were divided over.

I don’t want to gloat and say I won, but I will continue to write, and he will continue to speak to me, and that’s a pretty nice victory.

Compromise—that’s what it’s all about.

That and a few other tricks I keep up my sleeve for emergencies.

Until the next time…I’ll be wearing my bright blue sparkly eye shadow with my hot pink fur sweater and climbing into my time machine to visit 1984!
